ISO 17100

Translations according to ISO 17100.

At Übersetzungen [HOISS], quality has the utmost priority. That is why we have been certified since 2009 according to ISO 17100, the industry-specific standard for quality assurance in translations.
What does “certified according to ISO 17100” mean?

Specifically, ISO 17100 means that all steps of a translation project, starting with the offer and the actual translation process up to and including the subsequent revision are subject to a strict quality management system in which all project participants (translators, proofreaders, project managers, etc.) are involved. You can thus be sure that you will receive the desired services from Übersetzungen [HOISS] in a reliable and professional manner and punctually at all times.

A fundamental aspect of ISO 17100 is that all translations must be produced by correspondingly qualified translators. That is why we only work with translators who have the following expertise and qualifications:

The expertise of our translators

Linguistic and text expertise in the source and in the target language
Our translators are able to capture the content of the respective source text in full and to transfer it correctly to the target language, taking into account the conventions of the respective text type.
Research expertise
Our translators know how to obtain the necessary additional information that they require with the aid of diverse sources of information and research tools in order to capture the content of the source text and to transfer it correctly into the target language.
Cultural expertise
Our translators have the necessary knowledge of the culture of the source and the target languages as well as the corresponding sensitivity to produce translations that take the special cultural characteristics into account.

The qualification of our translators

All of the translators commissioned by us have in-depth specialist knowledge in the respective specialist area, only translate into their native tongue and have to provide proof that they

have completed a degree in translation or
hold a university degree in another field and have at least two years of full-time professional experience in translation or
have five years of full-time professional experience in the field of translation.
In addition, we attach great importance to our employees upskilling on a continuous basis through training and further education and through the reading of relevant specialist literature.

The “dual-control principle”

Another fundamental part of the standard is the proofreading of every translation. After the first check by the translator himself/herself, there is a second control process in which all our translations are checked by a second, independent specialist translator who has the target language as their mother tongue, and compared with the source text (“dual-control principle”). We can thus ensure that all translations that leave our company correspond to our strict standards of quality because, as is well-known, two heads are better than one...

Quality and satisfaction for our customers

The comprehensive documentation of the individual project steps within the framework of ISO 17100 means that we can guarantee our customers a professional and quality-assured inhouse handling of the project as well as high-quality translations and services that are continually being optimised further – entirely without additional costs.

Compliance with the standards according to ISO 17100 is checked by an independent auditing institute at regular intervals. During this audit, the certification of Übersetzungen Hoiss according to the quality standard ISO 17100 is checked and re-confirmed. We are particularly proud to have passed the audits to the utmost satisfaction of the auditors every time!
